RnB+Singer+Niyola+Interview+Zen+Magazine+Africa+2016

The 29 year old has both the talent and the vision to rise to the top. Signed to “E.M.E” Empire Mates Entertainment in 2012, Niyola sits with Zen to talk about life as a musician, her label mates and life away from the cameras.

How did you get started in the music industry?

Niyola: I participated in a competition in 2000. At the time I was extremely young and unaware of how intense music was as a profession and how far it could lead so I was going with the flow. I emerged first runner up and started getting offers to collaborate with already established artistes but I was overwhelmed and so I didn’t accept most of the offers. A few years after, having known major artistes and media practitioners and being a bit familiar with the industry, I finally decided to join the then “Da trybe” which didn’t last long and then eventually got signed to Westside Music where my debut album was released in 2008. The rest is history.

Have you always wanted to be a musician? Niyola: I always knew I wanted to do music but I had no clue how or when, and indefinitely didn’t think it would happen the way it did.

How did you get signed on to EME?
Niyola: Banky and I had been friends before he finally moved to Nigeria and at the time I had stopped doing music for about 3 years. I decided to release a new song featuring Skales who was signed to Banky and went to the E.M.E studio to meet with Skales‘ manager and ran into Banky. We ended up talking about the industry and the need for women to speak up about issues women faced in Nigeria like rape amongst many other things. We decided to work on a song bordering on women empowerment and that was how I ended up an Empire mate ! please like share and follow!
